That’s the case these days after decades of battling anxiety and depression.

The big change is due, in large part, to being able to access medical marijuana. It’s pretty amazing that after all the synthetic meds I’ve consumed over all these years to manage my condition, it’s a weed that does the trick. The irony is not lost on me. But I’m also not about to be bitter that I had to wait this long to be able to access a cannabis dispensary for medical marijuana either. There’s just no point in that sort of approach. Why waste energy on something that I had and have zero control over right? Besides, the world is just so bright these day that I don’t want to waste a minute on what might have been. But it is interesting that the one period in my life that I didn’t deal with near constant anxiety and depression was a few years in college. That’s the period when I smoked recreational marijuana with friends. But of course, recreational marijuana was illegal then and there was no such designation as medical marijuana. So, I turned to western medicine with limited results. Finally, once medical marijuana was legal in this state, my therapist suggested that I get access to the cannabis dispensary. And the rest is history. Within just weeks of starting treatment with sativa products, my life completely changed. There is so much more hope, joy and love for life in my life now and I couldn’t be more grateful for medical marijuana.

I wasn’t so sure about going to the cannabis dispensary for the first time.

I mean, I’m about as straight laced as one can get.

Family and work have always come first. That’s just the way I was raised and somehow, I just sort of fell into that life routine. These days, I have less responsibility when it comes to family and work. And then there’s the fact that recreational marijuana is now legal. When I first tried cannabis, I was in grad school. It was something a close circle of friends introduced me to. Right away, I was drawn to the fact that something like sativa strains really helped me with stress and anxiety. I’ve always been worried that I really didn’t measure up and wouldn’t be able to handle all the stuff that goes with being an adult. That was particularly the case when I was in grad school. I got through it but man, I was probably out of my league. Thankfully, I had sativa and indica to help me out back then. But once I got into my career, got married and started a family, I put away the marijuana. Again, it felt like what I was supposed to do more than what I wanted to do. That was a mistake I now realize. Still, I was hesitant to actually go into the local cannabis spot because I was afraid I’d stick out like a sore thumb. Never in my life have I been so excited to go to work.

That’s because I’m now full time into the marijuana business.

I left my corporate job as a chemical engineer two years ago to be a cannabis grower full time. And it’s been everything I though it could be and more. However, there are two decades of being a closeted cannabis grower that go into being able to get out on my own. Since college, I’ve been fascinated with cannabis products. It’s such a special, natural compound that truly got a very bad reputation due to the scurrilous myths that were put out about. But whatever lobby was behind those myths, they worked for a long time. So my cannabis work was something I had to do in secret. While I do enjoy recreational marijuana, it’s the chemistry of cannabis products that has intrigued me all these years really. Almost all of the weed I’ve grown over the year in my experimentation as a cannabis grower has been given away. I give it to trusted friends and anonymously to those who need medical marijuana but couldn’t get it. That was a rewarding way to live while also going to my day job everyday. But now that the marijuana business appears to be here to stay, I’m so excited to make being a legal cannabis grower my day job. I’ve started out small but have the property and strategy to scale up as quickly as I need to. Right now, I’m getting great response from my sativa products, indica products and the hybrid strains I’ve engineered. I’m in several local and regional cannabis dispensaries and it’s just wonderful to be doing this for a living.

I love that I’m actually moving a great bit of my own, personal financial portfolio over to the marijuana business. As a finance and investment professional, that’s not something I would have thought too much a decade ago. Yet, cannabis industry growth has been on my radar for sometime. Maybe that was on a more personal level perhaps. I’ve enjoy using recreational marijuana for much of my adult life. I prefer sativa and indica products to cocktails or any of the other more traditional libations. It doesn’t take much cannabis product for me to get the desired effect. While I’m not so much looking to get super stoned and roll off the couch, I love the benefits that cannabis products provide me. Namely, it helps me shut off all the calculating and scenario running so I can just be. This is super important in my life. Without some balancing, I think the finance world can just simply eat most people up. With cannabis products like OG kush or purple haze, I am able to maintain a certain perspective that allows me to continue to be a healthy human. So when medical marijuana was such a resounding success out west, that’s when I saw perhaps a future. Then, with the recreational marijuana legislation over the last decade, I was convinced of the viability of the marijuana business. However, it was this past election cycle that really got me to feel even more comfortable. It appears the recreational marijuana and medical marijuana are less of political hot potato. Sometimes, it’s okay to just give in to temptation a little bit early. There are treats and wonders in life that are sometimes just too irresistible to wait too long for. That’s definitely the case when it comes to my visits to the cannabis cafe. The local cannabis spot did us all a big, super solid when they decided to open a cannabis cafe just around the corner. Oh man, what a perfect spot to put this cannabis cafe. Not only does this place make the best cannabis edibles on the planet but they also happen to have the best coffee in town. That’s how I end up cheating and getting to the cannabis cafe before the agreed upon time. My buddies and I try to get together at the cannabis cafe like 2 or 3 times a month. It’s a great time and just the most chill atmosphere to just be with my best people. And the place is just so pretty as well. There are these oak trees that actually feel like they’re reaching down to pat me on the shoulder. Yet, they move enough so the dappling of sun splashes the random cheek of one or more of the party at our table. Yea, what I do is tell myself that all I’m going to do is get a coffee to go from the cannabis cafe. Of course, I do this when I don’t have any sort of place to go actually. That then allows me to dip into a nice cannabis creation and make new friends.

When I moved here once I retired, one of the first things I did was to go shopping at a cannabis dispensary.

The state I lived my adult life in still hasn’t gotten it’s act together when it comes to marijuana legislation.

Medical marijuana just barely lost on the last ballot. So that place was a long way from recreational marijuana laws. Believe it or not, a lot of where I was going to retire was predicated on recreational marijuana. There was no way I was spending my golden years without legal access to cannabis. I feel really lucky to have gone as long as I have without ever being busted for weed. I’ve come far too close and perhaps that’s why I’m not cocky and act stupid with cannabis. Yea, I wanted to be able to walk into the local cannabis spot and purchase any manner of cannabis product that my hearth desired. I’d done it a few time before on vacation. Now, I wanted to live my life that way forever. So I got right to it when I first moved here. The condo I bought for my retirement years is just blocks away from the local cannabis spot. Like the first week after I got there, I went into this cannabis dispensary to see what it was all about. Not only did I score a local cannabis spot that I can ride my bike to but it’s an awesome marijuana business. Just amazing the selection of sativa products and indica products. I also made new friends that day and enjoy just visiting the folks at my local cannabis spot even if I’m not buying any cannabis products.

So it was quite a visit to my Mom’s with the wife and kids.

We live like a 10 or 11 hour drive from my mom so, we don’t get up there all the time.

But it was mother’s day last year and my sister and I decided to surprise her. Well, the surprise was on us when we unexpectedly found some really nice sativa product in my mom’s house. I mean this was some great sativa strains. I actually smelled the cannabis before I picked it up. Yea, so we plan to go up, surprise grandma for mother’s day and then hang around the area for 4 days. Well, I ended up taking a trip to the cannabis dispensary my mom goes to. Turns out, my mom’s been smoking weed for years and years. When my dad was alive, he was sort of bad to drink. When we started talking after we found her stash, she told us that dealing with dad was how she started smoking marijuana. My mom doesn’t like alcohol on a couple of levels. She doesn’t like the taste of alcohol. Not even a fruity drink or something. And then, she is sort of a health nut so she just didn’t like to drink much at all. Maybe some wine every now and again. But that’s about it. So she used sativa products to sort of stay positive and even when dad got blotto. He wasn’t a mean drunk but he was just a lot. Pretty cool to know that my mom has been a hip lady all this time and I had no idea.

That was the goal from day one.

Just get to remission. And I’m really thankful that I had help making that my mindset when I was first diagnosed with cancer. The enormity of the whole thing was just too much. A friend who had battled cancer helped me focus on now and just healing to get to remission. She also turned me on to just how important cannabis would be in this situation. The doctor had suggested considering medical marijuana when we first started talking treatment. But I was still just too blown away that I had cancer to even hear him. That wasn’t the case with my dear friend. She made sure that getting access to the cannabis dispensary was an immediate priority. Since I really had not used recreational marijuana since college, my friend was also invaluable with how to use cannabis products. I had smoked weed in college but that was sort of a turnoff. I liked the feeling I got from recreational marijuana but I sure didn’t like the smoke. So my friend took me by the hand when I first went to the local cannabis spot. She helped me select a cannabis oil pen as well as some cannabis edibles. The cannabis oil pen is pretty remarkable. It’s essentially a vape pen that has a cannabis oil cartridge in it.
