The dropped box cost a lot

The very next day, the guy was back at job exhibiting the same reckless behavior

My boss hired a new guy to work at the marijuana dispensary. I’m not happy with the new guy. He talks all the time and he does not seem to be easily in gear. This is his first job in the retail setting. He has previously worked in warehouses and outdoor construction jobs. He seems nice and friendly, although he is not easily too focused on the job. My boss sent the guy to the basement the other day to grab a box of cannabis concentrate. The guy was gone for 10 or 15 minutes. It should have only taken a minute or many to walk downstairs and grab the box. When the guy finally came up the stairs, he was carrying a box of broken glass and cannabis jars. He dropped the box on the floor and all of the cannabis jars were broken. The guy looked actually scared. My boss came out from behind the counter and grabbed the box. My boss told the guy to take a break and grab some breakfast. My boss inventoried the box and found half of the jars broken or shattered. All of us could not sell any of the cannabis concentrate inventory. The dropped box cost the supplier almost 600. I thought our boss was going to fire the guy on the spot, although she called it an accident. The very next day, the guy was back at job exhibiting the same reckless behavior. All of us need employees to work in the store, but at what cost to the business. The guy cost the supplier more than he made in his first week on the job.
