For 5 years, I watched my mother struggle with the opiate drugs the doctor gave her for pain.
She was upping the dose every couple months, and I knew she had become addicted, and I needed to find a way for her to deal with the pain and get off the opioids. She gave me the web address for the state medical marijuana program and told me it was simple to follow, and within more than two weeks, we had a medical marijuana ID card for mom, and I was going to take her to the marijuana dispensary, mom was not sure we were doing the right thing, but I was sure medical cannabis was better than opioids. She was 90 years old, and I did not want to see her wasting her last couple of years dependent on opioids. When we went to the cannabis dispensary, mama told me she was as anxious as a young girl going out on her first date. She was still going through withdrawal from the opioids, but I assured her that the medical cannabis would help her, and we talked to the pharmacist, and I told them what was going on, and the pharmacist was quick to tell our mother what she should be using. She had something to help her with withdrawal symptoms, and another product to help her with the pain she was going through. Within a month, our mama was almost back to where she had been before all the drugs the doctor gave her. I used to think medical marijuana was better than opioids, but now I’m sure of it.
