Using cannabis to treat insomnia

I started having issues with insomnia when I turned fifty years old.

It started with restless sleep.

I’d wake up every couple of hours and have trouble falling back to sleep. This progressed to the point where I dreaded going to bed at night. I knew that I would lay there for an eternity, struggling to fall asleep. Even if I managed to finally nod off, I would wake up repeatedly. Every morning, I felt exhausted. I’d yawn and drag all day long. I tried all different types of remedies, from herbal teas to scented pillow sprays. I practiced relaxation and breathing techniques. I avoided television and my computer screen in the hours before going to bed. I followed a strict nighttime schedule. Nothing worked. I was unwilling to risk the side-effects of pharmaceuticals. It was a huge relief to me when recreational cannabis was ultimately legalized in my state. I now have access to a dispensary and a wide selection of natural treatments for insomnia. Indica strains are especially relaxing. I’ve found that edibles work really well for me. All it takes is a single gummy to help me sleep. Because the effects take about half an hour to set in, I consume the edible prior to getting ready for bed. The effects of edibles are long-lasting and work to keep me asleep through the night. Tinctures are another beneficial option. I can place a few drops under my tongue for sublingual absorption of cannabinoids and quick onset of effects. I can also swallow the tincture for a delayed onset.
