First time at cannabis dispensary was overwhelming

The first time I visited a cannabis dispensary, I was 25 years old.

I had no idea what to expect or what I was going to buy.

My state has just legalized recreational cannabis and I decided to sample weed for the first time ever. I stepped inside the dispensary expecting to find a sketchy weed shop. I pictured it to be similar to a porn shop or gas station. Instead I was surprised to discover that the dispensary was very brightly lit, modern, welcoming and clean. There were rows of glass display cases showing off all sorts of different types of cannabis products and gear. I was surprised at how many different methods there are for just smoking. They offered a selection of bongs, pipes, rolling papers, hookahs and lots of styles of vapes. I had the option to smoke flower, oil or vaporize a concentrate. I could even dab if I wanted. There were various types of topicals and a whole menu of edibles too. The many strange terms for different products were confusing. Then there’s the fact that each strain is labeled as a sativa, indica or hybrid. There was THC and CBD content listed on each product. I felt so intimidated by the choices available and the wealth of information that I nearly walked out the door. Fortunately, the marijuana dispensary I chose was staffed by a qualified budtender who guided me through each option. She briefly explained the different ways I can consume cannabis and wanted to know what I was hoping to experience from it. Did I hope to relax and feel drowsy? Was I looking to stimulate my mind and boost my creativity? After a few questions, she offered several options for products and a few different consumption methods that I felt comfortable with.
